Feed Stats Wordpress Plugin
FeedBurner Feed Stats is a plugin that allows you to view your FeedBurner feed stats from inside of the WordPress admin interface. Stats for your feed can be viewed from the “Feed Stats” page in the “Dashboard” section of WordPress.
Currently, this plugin allows you to view the following types of statistics:
- Subscribers
- Hits
- Reach (see the FAQ section for more information about this)
- Item Clickthroughs
- Item Views
Note: This is a third-party plugin for viewing data from the FeedBurner web service. I am not in any way affiliated with FeedBurner.
Installation
Installing this plugin into your copy of WordPress and configuring it is a three-step process:
- Download the plugin and extract the feed-stats folder into a temporary location. Copy this folder into your wp-content folder in your installation of WordPress.
- In the “Plugins” page of the “Plugins” section of the admin interface, click on the “Activate” button next to this plugin’s name.
- Under the “Feed Stats” page of the “Settings” section of the admin interface, type in the name of your feed on FeedBurner. Click the “Save Settings” button.
You’re done! You can now see the stats of your feed in the “Feed Stats” page of the “Dashboard” section of WordPress’ admin interface.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are “Reach” stats?
According to FeedBurner, “Reach” stats describe how many of your subscribers actively click on and view items in your feed. For more information on this, you can view the “What is Reach?” article in the FeedBurner Help Center.
How do I know what the name of my FeedBurner feed is?
Look at the link to your FeedBurner Feed. It’s that link, but without the http://feeds.feedburner.com/ part. For instance, let’s say that the URL for your feed is http://feeds.feedburner.com/Speedbreeze. The name of the feed is just the “Speedbreeze” part at the end.
What’s the “Awareness API”?
The Awareness API is the system that FeedBurner created to allow applications (like this plugin) to access your statistics. You will have to manually enable it in the admin panel of your FeedBurner account in order to use this plugin (it’s turned off by default). More information about enabling it is below.
How do I enable the Awareness API?
To enable the Awareness API, login to your FeedBurner account, click on “My Feeds” and select the feed you want to enable the API for from the list. Click on the “Publicize” tab and then click on the “Awareness API” link under the services column. Finally, click on the “Activate” button.
How are the charts displayed?
The charts are displayed using the Google Charts API. Additional chart making software or graphics software (like GD) doesn’t have to be installed on your server to run this plugin.
How many days of stats does the plugin display?
By default, 12 days of hits, subscribers, and reach stats are shown.
I’ve found that 12 days of stats displays well in the charts in the dashboard. If you wish to change this, the number of days is configurable from the “Feed Stats” page in the “Settings” section of the WordPress admin interface.
What browsers will this plugin work in?
As of version 1.0.4, this plugin has been tested in (and known to work well in) the following set of browsers:
- Internet Explorer 6
- Opera 9.5
- Safari 3
- Firefox 3
- Google Chrome beta
Screenshots
- View stats about how many hits your entire feed gets.
- View how many subscribers your feed has.
- Learn how many of your subscribers actively participate.
- Want more information? Handy tables are just below the charts.
- An AJAX-powered feed name tester lets you quickly find out whether you typed in your feed name properly.
- Not sure what the message means? Handy built-in help can tell you about it.

Cheers.

Thanks for telling me about this!
I’ve just put together a fix for this and am working on pushing it out to WordPress.org/extend later today.
About the error:
Line 34 of fs-render.php is the scaling code for the line charts used. It appears that you have a brand new FeedBurner account with no stats in it yet. The scaling code wasn’t prepared for this case.

The new version’s up on http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/feed-stats-plugin/. Try it out. The bug should be fixed now.
Thanks again for telling me about the bug!

Hi Jonathan, I just wanted to say that this is a great plugin, and very much appreciated. I’m loving the fact that I don’t have to visit the FeedBurner site everyday now! I also wrote up a review of it on my blog, hopefully it will help turn more people on to this great tool.

The plugin was working fine, but now I only get a “Feed Not Found” message.
In the configuration page it says the feed is valid. =\
How can I get it working again?

Thanks for reporting this! I’ll try to investigate this.

Hmmm… I tested the feedburner feed for <http://joelteixeira.net/> and didn’t have any issues. It’s possible that FeedBurner was having problems at the time when this error showed up. If you try to view your feed stats again and are still having issues, I would suggest reinstalling the plugin.
If problems persist after reinstalling the plugin, feel free to post another comment! I want to make sure that this plugin works for you.

Hey,
I’m trying to use your plugin with WP 2.7b3 and I’m getting the following error if I test the connection in the settings tab:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_remote_request() in /data/vhome/vhost0102/http/blog/wp-includes/rss.php on line 539
Still this function still resides in wp-includes/http.php so it should be able to use it. I think this causes the error on my feedburner stats dashboard:
Warning: max() [function.max]: Array must contain atleast one element in /data/vhome/vhost0102/http/blog/wp-content/plugins/feed-stats-plugin/fs-render.php on line 30
Welcome! It appears that this is a brand new FeedBurner account—please wait a day or two for your first stats to appear.
Although the feed has been active now for over a month and statistics ARE available.
On a sidenote, in the description of the plugin on the pluginspage you refer to the configuration page but the link on “configure” links to your own website, might want to make that a relative link
Great plugin to use otherwise (from what I’ve seen in the screenshots) and I can’t wait to get it working on my own site.
Let me know if you need any other info on this problem.
kind regards,

@Bram:
Thanks for your feedback! I’ll try to get an updated version online by Friday, November 20, 2008.
Thanks again!

@Bram:
The version in trunk now works with WordPress 2.7. You can check it out using SVN at:
http://svn.wp-plugins.org/feed-stats-plugin/trunk/
November 25th, 2008 at 4:49 am
Hey Jonathan,
thanks for the reply. I downloaded the version in trunk and uploaded that one in stead of the stable release.
The relative link on the plugins description screen is ok now, but when hitting the “test” button on the settings panel I get this error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function __() in /data/vhome/vhost0066/http/blog/wp-includes/http.php on line 782
On Dashboard/Feed Stats the problem remains the same.
Email me if you would like to get more info or feedback. I’m a webdeveloper myself but I don’t have the time to start sorting out your code.

I’ve spent the past two days working out this problem (and improving a lot of code under-the-hood). The interface should now integrate a bit more nicely with WP 2.7. I believe that I’ve fixed all of the undefined function issues. The last one was caused because of the WordPress translation library not being imported correctly.
I’ve tested the new (I tagged it 10 minutes ago) 1.0.4 version of the plugin with WordPress 2.3, 2.5, 2.6, and trunk on a local installation of XAMPP. I also ran it on a MediaTemple (gs). Both were running with PHP 5.
The code in http.php at line 782 appears to be WordPress attempting to log an error because it is unable to open a socket. Have you tried any other WordPress plugins that try to communicate with remote servers?
Please contact me if you have any other issues!

Hey,
I update to the 1.0.4 version via automatic updates inside Wordpress ( > just lazy) and it does integrate a lot better now. Now I get nicely formatted error messages instead of the regular php errors.
The problem isn’t resolved yet, but from your description I think it might have to do with a configuration error on the server side.
I currently use the following plugin’s that connect to the outside-server-world:
- Akismet
- Feed Subscriber Stats (Gets the total number of subscribers - light version of what you’ve made I guess - and this works fine)
Both seem to work just fine. Wich function do you use for the external communication? Maybe I can check the server for this?

One tiny little bug I’ve found, when you hit the test button under settings and it returns an error, you refer to the exclamation icon like so: [your-plugin]/images/exclamation.gif while in the package this icon is places directly under the root of the plugin folder. This results in a broken image link.
Just thought I’d annoy you a little with more ranting
Maybe you can just email me in the future or else the comment’s might get rather lengthy

You’re right–this comment listing will get far too long; this comment listing is also non-threaded, which makes finding posts annoying.
I’ve decided to move the discussion off into the following Google Group mailing list:
