How to Add Effects to Photos in Your Blog Posts with Microsoft Word 2007
In yesterday’s post, I explained in detail how to connect your WordPress blog to Microsoft Word 2007. However, I only scratched the surface of what you can add to your blog posts and the effects you can add to them. Today, I will explain how to add photos to your blog posts and add image effects to them with Word 2007.
There is a simple process to adding photos to your blog post in Microsoft Word 2007:
- Open up a new blog post.
- Note: If you don’t know how to open a new blog post, see yesterday’s post.
- Note: These instructions will only work in Microsoft Word 2007; they will not work in earlier versions of Word.
- Click the “Insert” tab on the ribbon.
- In the “Illustrations” section of the ribbon, click “Picture” and then select the picture that you want to insert into your blog post. The picture will then be inserted into your blog post. When you publish your post to WordPress, the photos in your post will be uploaded to your blog.
Now that you have inserted the picture, you will notice that the ribbon now has a “Format” tab that says, “Picture Tools” above it. If the tab isn’t selected yet, click on it. You will notice many different settings in the tab:
- The “Adjust” Section allows you to adjust the brightness and contrast of photos, recolor them, and switch them out with others. Examples:

![]() |
![]() |
| Original | Increased Brightness | Recolored Blue |
- The “Picture Styles” Section allows you to add shape- and border- related effects to images.
- The “Arrange” Section allows you to do text-wrapping with images and position photos on the page.
- The “Size” Section allows you to resize and crop your photos. Examples:

| Original | Resized | Cropped |
I hope that this information will be helpful for people who want to make the pictures in their blog posts a bit more interesting. Stay tuned for more information about using Office 2007 to make your blog better. Have fun posting to your blog!
