How to Post to Your WordPress.com Blog with Microsoft Word 2007
Switching this blog’s posting software to Word 2007 has been on my to-do list for a long time, mostly because I thought that it would be tough to do. Luckily, I was wrong; it turns out to be a very simple process. I now like posting from Word so much that I have decided to post the details on how others can do this, too. Here’s the process:
- Open up Microsoft Word 2007
- Note: these instructions will not work with earlier versions of Word.
- Click the Office button, and then click “New”. A “New Document” window will appear.

- Under “Blank and recent,” click “New blog post.”

- In the “Blog” section of the ribbon, click “Manage Accounts.” A “Blog Accounts” window will appear.

- Click the “New” button and then select “WordPress” as your blog provider. Click “Next.”

- In the “Blog Post URL” textbox, enter your blog’s name and then “.wordpress.com” in between “http://” and “/xmlrpc.php.”
- Enter your username and password into the “User Name” and “Password” textboxes.
- Click “OK.”
- Note: Contrary to what the “New Blog Account” window in Word says, these steps will not create a WordPress.com account. These steps will only connect your blog to Microsoft Word and tell Word where to put blog posts.
- Close the “Blog Accounts” window.
Word is now set up to post to your blog! Here’s a quick tour:
- To insert a category, click the “Insert Category” button in the “Blog” section of the ribbon. Then, select one of your categories in the drop-down box that appears.
- To publish your post, click the “Publish Button” button in the “Blog” section of the ribbon.
- To save your post as a draft, click the arrow below the “Publish Button” button in the “Blog” section of the ribbon and then click “Publish as Draft”
- In the “Insert” tab of the ribbon, you can add pictures, links, shapes, charts, symbols, and even WordArt.
Have fun using Word 2007 to post to your blog!

Hello,
Have you figured out how to post pics directly from Word 2007 to your blog site? I’d like to insert a picture in my Word 2007 document and then post the document with the picture included to the blog site.
I’m using WordPress on my own server. The URl’s that I’ve used to upload the pictures in the picture options section do not seem to work but the url’s are themselves ok.
Do I use http:// or http://www.blogsite.org neither option seems to work when I complete the picture options section.

I haven’t extensively tested usage of Word 2007 with self-hosted WordPress blogs, so I’m not quite sure yet what to fill that box in with yet. For WordPress.com blogs, the “My blog provider” option works.

I just ran a quick test with Word 2007. Using the “My Blog Provider” option in the “Picture Options” section works with this blog. It uploads images correctly.
Hope this helps!
